| There are numerous breeds of monkey’s on this earth. Each breed has its own typical physiological and behavioral characteristic. The survival and food habits too are little different depending on the environmental and climatic conditions in which these monkey’s are brought up. The few known breeds are as follows. |

| The average Capuchin weighs about 4.5 - 8 lbs. This may not seem like a lot of weight but remember they are a lot more mobile than other pets and so carry that weight to portions of your home that no dog or cat ever could. They walk on all fours and frequently jump. When they do decide to leap, they can do so approximately 3 yards (9 feet) so if theres a part of your room that seems out of reach, think again. They do not choose a single mate and are very sociable. Single males can live in groups of over 10 females. In the wild, Capuchin males typically transfer between groups all the time once they've reached maturity. |

| The average weight of a squirrel monkey is 2 - 7 lbs. They walk on all fours and frequently jump. When they leap, they do so approximately 1 yard (3 ft). Although they can't jump nearly as far as Capuchins, they can easily make it onto your kitchen table! They don't choose a single mate and love being in groups. In the wild, a typical group ranges in the mid thirties to forties. More than one male can get along but expect the occassional fights. They reach sexual maturity at around 3 years of age. They typically choose to sleep up high since they are used to sleeping on branches in chairs and naturally live in a tree filled enviornment. |

| These are the most common monkey known to man and incompass 22 species. Some Macaques species are used exclusively for animal testing which is an enormous political ethics topic. There are many types of Macaques which would make decent pets but I recommend getting one of the earlier species discussed on this page because it's been found in a Texas University study, that around 90% of captive Macaques, are carriers of the Herpes-B Virus. This virus does not affect other Macaques but can be very harmful to humans. |
